The newly restored Lynchburg Museum reopened in 2008 with new galleries and displays. The building itself is historic as it served as part of Lynchburg’s court system from 1855 to 1970. The museum has begun a ”Night at the Museum“ program for children and their parents where you can spend the night.

The cemetery offers a fascinating look at Lynchburg’s past and also offers excellent examples of gardens. You can pick up a map at the Gatehouse for a self-guided tour. The Mourning Museum (inside the Cemetery Center) is open for drop-in visits whenever the Cemetery Center is open (see above). Tours of the Mourning Museum are free of charge. The Pest House, Hearse House, Station House, and Chapel are open all day for self-guided exterior tours, using brochures and audio recordings.
